Celebrate Moms & Pops. . .

I hope you're having a great week so far!  I've been enjoying flowers, gifts, and cards from my sweet students and their families.  One of my sweet families made this adorable sign for me!

I just fell in love with it because this student worked so hard with his mom to make this for me. . .so so sweet and super cute. . .made me feel so loved and appreciated!

This week we're celebrating moms and dads!  We're working on a few projects for Mother's Day and Father's Day.  We're not in school on Father's Day, but dads work so hard that I didn't want to forget about them!  I made a little unit with read alouds, writing connections, and art projects.

It's a week long unit with some fun little projects. . .

We are on the countdown here with only 16 days of school remaining, however I have only about 6 or 7 days since I'm going to use the last week and a half of school to get some rest before baby Jaxon makes his grand arrival!

Got a poem in your pocket?

Today we had a "poetry picnic."  This was the culminating activity for our poetry unit of study, and the students and families had a wonderful time!  There's nothing like a picnic lunch on a nice spring day with some good poetry. . .

Keep a poem in your pocket

and a picture in your head

and you'll never feel lonely

at night when you're in bed

The little poem will sing to you

the little picture bring to you

a dozen dreams to dance to you

at night when you're in bed

So-

keep a picture in your pocket

and a poem in your head

and you'll never feel lonely

at night when you're in bed.

These poetry pockets turned out pretty cute!  All of the kids' poetry were tucked inside!

These are just a few examples of alliteration.  My kids really enjoyed learning about onomatopoeia, rhythm, and shape poems as well!  The parents absolutely loved this, and many of my students discovered that they were "poets" and they "didn't even know it!"  This became a compliment in our room during our study of poetry. . . best of all the weather was perfect {you never know what you're gonna get in Texas}!
